The Houghton-\u00adle-\u00adSpring Passion Play will be\u00a0performed in the evocative location of the\u00a0Houghton Hillside Cemetery at noon on Good\u00a0Friday 3rd April. The play set in modern times in\u00a0a “CNN news” reporting style and using music\u00a0composed by parishioner Stuart Clappison is set\u00a0to move hearts and minds for the second time in\u00a0the open air. The audience becomes the crowd\u00a0in this performance as the story of Jesus’ arrest,\u00a0trial and execution is brought to life as the local\u00a0actors weave through the cemetery depicting the\u00a0stations of the cross.<\/p>\n

The Rector of Houghton, Rev’d Canon Sue\u00a0Pinnington said:<\/p>\n

“this is the eleventh time this\u00a0play has been performed in Houghton and just\u00a0the second time we have used the Hillside\u00a0Cemetery. Being outside adds a different\u00a0dimension to the experience and enables us to\u00a0present the Passion of Christ to a whole new\u00a0audience. We’re excited to be able to bring the\u00a0good news of Jesus out of church and into the\u00a0open for all to see.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A free shuttle bus will take spectators from the\u00a0Broadway in front of St Michael and All Angels\u00a0church up to the cemetery (please note that there is no on-\u00adstreet\u00a0parking at the venue).<\/p>\n

This year a trainee priest, John Vilaseca Bruch,\u00a0will be playing the part of Jesus, he said,<\/p>\n

“I am honoured to be playing this role in the play. I am\u00a0sure it will bring the story of the Passion of Christ\u00a0alive for me in a very personal way. I hope our\u00a0play will help people to put themselves into the\u00a0story and experience its power.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This free event is unique in the area and\u00a0promises to be a moving experience for all who\u00a0attend.<\/p>\n
