From this week’s news-sheet

Dear Friends,

Join us this Good Friday at 10 am for our ‘Sparks’ service especially for families with young children when we will be inviting children and adults alike to ‘Experience Easter’ taking part in different ‘stations’ and sharing in the story of Holy Week and Easter in St Michael’s Church.

At the service we’ll be launching our Easter Egg Painting Competition – paint a paste egg and bring it along to our Easter Day Service at 10 am – we’ve a prize for age groups 0-10, 11-18, 18+ (and chocolate I’m sure for everyone who takes part) – everyone is welcome to join in what I hope will be an ‘eggs-ellent’ competition!!

Over these coming days we’ve a full fair of traditional services to mark Christ’s Passion and celebrate Easter:
  Maunday Thurs 7pm Communion with footwashing /stripping of sanctuary followed by ‘Watch’;
  Good Friday 2pm Communion and Procamation of the Cross;
  Easter Day 10am Service of Light and Communion.

We will also be holidng a dawn vigil outside at the back of St Michael’s starting at 5am on Easter morning.  We’ll gather together around a fire to tell stories from the old testament of God’s saving work for his people in history.  At dawn we will bless the flame of the fire to mark Christ’s resurrection in the light of the new day.  We will use that flame to light our new Easter Candle in our service of light later on in the morning.  Please join us at any point during our vigil from 5 through to 8 – bacon butties may well arrive to coincide with the singing of ‘Jesus Christ is risen today’ at around 8:15!!

Hope to see you over these coming days.

With my prayers for a blessed end to Holy Week and Easter

Rector John

Our prayer for this Easter Sunday:

God of glory,
by the raising of your Son
you have broken the chains of death and hell:
fill your Church with faith and hope;
for a new day has dawned
and the way to life stands open
in our Saviour Jesus Christ.
